Have you ever heard of the ‘Stoned Ape theory’? The theory was developed by ethnobotanist Terreance McKenna and his brother Dennis McKenna. This theory posited that at some point during the evolution of mankind, our ancestors, whom it is assumed were related to primates, discovered and ingested various psychedelic fungi. These fungi included but were not limited to those of the psilocybin containing variety and the ‘Stoned Ape Theory’ posits that ingesting these mushrooms influenced the development of their consciousness and brains. It is argued that without ingesting these psychedelic mushrooms mankind and society as we know it would likely have never been developed.
While we at FF Studios can not speak to the validity or not of the ‘Stoned Ape Theory’ we most certainly can confirm the existence of what we have now dubbed the ‘Stoned Amphibians’. We know this because a couple of Floofs decided they wanted to see the Amazonian Rainforest and went to Tumucumaque in Brazil and when they came back they brought some friends! (By the way, don’t ask me how the Floofs got to Brazil, I have stopped asking them questions like that and now just ask when they plan to be back)
Apparently they spent a week in the jungle hanging out with these crazy frogs that I don’t think any human has seen before. What we know about them is that these frogs seem to have been eating mushrooms deep in the jungle for so many generations that they have actually started growing mushrooms on their tails. When these mushrooms reach maturity the frogs simply stick their tongue out, pick a couple, eat them and wait for some new ones to grow. At some point along the way this excess consumption of mushrooms also resulted in them growing wings and being able to create swirling colors in their throats as they ribbit. We still aren’t really sure what the evolutionary advantage of these features are and actually wonder if they grew them solely because the frogs felt like growing them. It appears that these frogs may have far more control over their own evolutionary path than any other creature on this planet and they probably have lots of other secrets in store for us.
The Floofs have assured us that these frogs are perfectly harmless and actually just want to hang out and see what life is like outside of the rainforest. They may eventually decide to hop on back to the jungle one day but for now they are really enjoying the change of scenery
